The LA Zoo
On Veterans Day, the husband was was working, but my son and I were off–no work for me, no daycare for him. So I took him on his first trip to the LA Zoo.
We got there late, so I wheeled the stroller super fast to the lion pen, so Zack could see real lions. He’s been roaring like a lion lately. Which explains this Halloween costume.
And actually, he roared when he saw all the animals. I think they all fell into the lion category of his taxonomy, being big and real and all.
Turns out the LA Zoo is very actively involved in conservation projects. They are a partner in the California Condor Recovery Program, which has brought the condors back from the very brink of extinction. In the 1980s, there were only 22 left. Now there 362, and 189 of them live in the wild. (Funny, but I had just heard this fact on The Daily Show when Jane Goodall was a guest.)
